Best romantic proposal scenes from Bollywood movies

Bollywood romance has filled us all with unrealistic expectations. The slow dancing in the rain without music and the airport chase scenes had us all in our feels. Bollywood has been known for its romance and grand gestures of love so much that whenever we see a romantic proposal in real-life, we say it looks like a Bollywood movie. Here are some of the best romantic proposal scenes from Bollywood movies:

  1. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na:

A cute coming-of-age tale of two best friends who fall in love with each other without realising it. In true Bollywood fashion, Jai (Imran Khan) runs after Aditi (Genelia D’souza) through the airport causing security breaches and bursts into song, despite having no singing talent.

  1. Mujhse Shadi Karogi:

Sameer is an angry man until a heartbreak forces him to reconsider his actions and move to Goa where he comes across Rani. After a long love triangle between him and his nemesis Sunny, Sameer finally confesses his love in a packed cricket stadium. The grand gesture and the ultimate reveal in the film fills us with pride for Sameer’s character development.

  1. Anjaana Anjaani:

Two strangers decide to help each other commit suicide after being kicked around by life. However, their story takes a turn when they fall in love and in an unusual way profess their love to each other while almost drowning in ice-cold water.

  1. Break Ke Baad:

Break Ke Baad is one of those unconventional stories where it takes distance, or rather a break up, to make the heart grow fonder. Deepika proposes to Imran Khan in this film and we are all for women taking charge and making grand romantic gestures.

  1. Cocktail:

Despite all the ups and downs, the proposal scene in Cocktail where Gautam proposes to Meera with the exact same words from their first meeting is the stuff of dreams!

  1. Rang De Basanti:

Ajay’s proposal to Sonia is one of the most emotional scenes in film. Coupled with the song ‘Tu bin bataye’ and friends dancing in joy makes it one of the most realistic proposal scenes in Bollywood.

  1. Rehnna Hai Tere Dil Mein:

Maddy has been an audience favourite ever since the movie released. The airport proposal scene made audiences gasp when we all thought Reena was married to the real Rajiv Samra. However, Rajiv is only there to unite the two lovers and Maddy’s proposal to Reena makes for a genuine happy ending.

  1. My Name Is Khan:

Love conquers all and the same is true for the sweet, emotional efforts of Rizwan Khan for Mandira. Taking on the challenge of showing Mandira an aspect of the city, she has never seen before, Rizwan times a sunrise for days until he is sure. The fog-filled morning and Mandira’s misty eyes made the scene authentic.

While there are many films that have done proposals right, these are some that will tug at your heartstrings the right way, no matter how many times you watch them.
