5 Bollywood movies that portray the bond of a father and child beautifully

A lot has been portrayed on the silver screen on the loving bond between a mother and child. However today we turn the spotlight on the intricately beautiful relationship between a father and a child. There's many facets to this somewhat complex relationship, replete with its own emotions and subtleties. From truly believing in their dreams to being their best critic, fathers fight alongside their children right up till the finish line. What's amazing to note is how Bollywood has portrayed this relationship through the years.

  1. Dangal

This had to be the first on the list. A fierce father who believes there's not an ounce of difference in his children being sons or daughters, goes on to train them in the most rigorous and meticulous manner. The daughters make him proud by winning the gold at a coveted international sports tournament. The first Indian film to gross $300 million worldwide, it speaks volumes about the coming-of-age relationship between fathers and daughters.

  1. Raazi

Another film based on the heroic courage of a father and daughter. Raazi shows the story of a brave Indian spy who puts everything at stake for the love of her country. The poignant moments between Sehmat and her father reflect how a child always embraces the values and life-long lessons instilled in them by their father. And how one trusts the other with their life and without having to say a word.

  1. Wake up Sid

The story of how a young college student who hails from an affluent family, realises his true calling, when he is confused regarding which path to take in life. The portrayal of Sid’s metamorphosis from a reckless student who fails his exams to a responsible man who acknowledges his passions for what they are, is commendable. His love for photography imbibed early on from his father and their unspoken understanding about each other is heartwarming to say the least.

  1. Angrezi Medium

What happens when a child dreams and a father goes to any lengths to fulfil that dream? A story unfolds that inspires many to do the same! Starring the late Irrfan Khan and the talented Radhika Madan in lead roles, the movie revolves around the story of a young school-going girl who always dreams of travelling and studying abroad. Her father, being a true pillar of support, tries to help her manifest this seemingly larger-than-life goal. The movie ends on an emotional note teaching many great lessons in parenthood.

  1. Paa

The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in pivotal roles, with the latter portraying his on-screen father. The film throws light on a father who is unaware of him being one at first, and how he receives his ailing son with open arms. The two go on to build a beautiful relationship of love and support.
